The Unreal Development Kit Now Streamlined With Perforce

If you download the Unreal Development Kit now (July 2012), it should come with the Perforce Software Version Management System.

Perforce allows enterprize-grade version control tools for up to 20 users and 20 workstations free of charge, with unrestricted time limits and file quantities.

What does this mean for game developers?

If you are working on the same project, but have a large team, you need to delegate tasks but still be able to arrange and collect the data efficently, keeping everything in check.
Perforce does all this, whilst collecting data on the change history of each file, and making sure each file is reproducable and traceable.
It is fully scaleable too, so as your team size/complexity of the project grows, you do not have to worry about this aspect at all, making sure creativity stays at the top most priority, as it should be.

The Unreal Editor has been updated to have an easy to grasp intergration with Perforce, automatically adding and removing content as it is edited.
If you already have an existing Perforce installation, the UDK is also still compatible with it.

“Teaming up with the game industry’s cutting-edge and highly powerful Unreal Engine technology is a natural fit for Perforce,” said Randy DeFauw, technical marketing manager of Perforce Software. “Epic understands the value of leveraging a rock solid version management system that appeals to developers of all disciplines. We’re pleased to share the benefits of Perforce with development teams worldwide through their latest release of the engine.”

“Shipping a tighter Perforce integration with Unreal Engine 3 along with free access to Perforce via UDK demonstrates how Epic is always working to put more power into the hands of game developers everywhere,” said Jay Wilbur, vice president of Epic. “We are committed to providing the very best game engine technology at all times.”
