THQ financial difficulties Cause Changes

After THQ stock prices dropped by around 46% after a twelve minute call by the investors, you could say that THQ are currently in a tight situation despite Darksiders 2 selling 1.4 million copies. With this in mind it will come as no surprise to anyone that THQ has decided to push back the release date of their next three games, not including Darksiders 2 Wii U edition.

South Park The Stick of Truth was supposed to have been released March 5th 2013 but has been pushed back to early fiscal 2014 so it won’t be released till after April 1st 2013 at the earliest because to quote THQ in their recent report, “the need for additional development time” but it will apparently have multiple seasons worth of content. Company of Heroes 2 and Metro: Last Light are also being pushed back but unlike the South Park game Metro and Company of Heroes 2, they are only being pushed back from February to March of 2013. THQ are insisting that Company of Heroes 2 will live up to the first games legacy and that Metro: Last Light will set the standards for atmosphere, visuals, unique locations and cutting edge style, so it’s nice to know that THQ aren’t setting their sights to high.

THQ however still seem to be confident that this won’t be a long term problem because they still have games planned to be released in 2014. This includes a sequel to Saints Row: The Third but hopefully it will be at least a little restrained this time, as well as Homefront 2, plus a yet to be announced shooter by Turtle Rock studio who previously made the first Left 4 Dead. THQ have in total 10 games in development for 2014 and later.

So despite the fact that THQ are having financial problems they seem to be handling them pretty well. By choosing to delay their games in order to improve them instead of rushing games out, gamers may be able to benefit from THQ’s troubles and maybe this can help change people’s opinions on THQ in general. That being said, some of the 10 games THQ are currently planning may end up being cancelled.
