Well known Spy novelist, Tom Clancy, dies aged 66 who attached his name to numerous incredible games.
The prolific espionage and military novelist Tom Clancy passed away in a Baltimore hospital on Tuesday night, his publisher has confirmed. He was 66.
Clancy was known most in literary circles for his Jack Ryan novels. A number of entries in the acclaimed series were adapted by Hollywood for movies, most notable among them being ‘The Hunt for Red October’ and ‘Patriot Games’. A new film, titled ‘Shadow One’ and directed by Kenneth Branagh, is scheduled for release in December.
For gamers his name became a recognizable brand for numerous games when he co-founded Red Storm Entertainment in 1996,which went on to release Rainbow Six. Following the success of its Rainbow Six titles, Red Storm Entertainment was later acquired by Ubisoft, which has since expanded the Tom Clancy brand to include the highly successful Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell franchises. The Tom Clancy brand name has also been attached to titles such as H.A.W.X and EndWar.
Ubisoft is expected to launch Tom Clancy’s The Division on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2014.
However for future titles it is unclear if they will continue with the Tom Clancy branding. Hopefully as respect and for such a creative individual it will remain with the franchise.
