Watch Dogs System Specs will require 64-bit Operating System
Watch Dogs by Ubisoft is a highly anticipated game that will release on both current generation consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U) and next generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One); however, many Ubisoft fans plan to play the game on PC. As the PC is an open platform, these users are undoubtedly interested in learning what kind of power will be required to run the game. The answers these future players want might just have been leaked this past Thursday.
Ubisoft briefly posted, apparently in error because they quickly removed it, the system specs for Watch Dogs. Although Ubisoft will not comment as to the accuracy of the specs, a user on NeoGaf managed to copy them before they were deleted.
The biggest news from this leak is that Watch Dogs will require a 64-bit operating system. This news means that users running Windows 7 or 8 32-bit editions will be unable to play Watch Dogs without upgrading. Steam reports that 24% of its users are running these types of systems, meaning that nearly a quarter of all Steam users will be ineligible to purchase Watch Dogs.
These users could upgrade, however, to a 64-bit OS if they have at least 4 GB RAM and a CPU capable of running 64-bit operating systems (most Intel and AMD processors from the past few years should be able to do so). There is still time to make these upgrades before Watch Dogs hits stores on November 19th in North America and November 22nd in Europe for current generation consoles and PC. PS4 and Xbox One versions will be available when each of the consoles releases.
The rest of the Watch Dogs system specs are fairly standard:
- 64-bit edition of Windows Vista (SP 2), Windows 7 (SP 1), or Windows 8
- DVD-ROM Dual Layer Drive
- 20 GB Hard Drive Space
- DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
- Internet Connection (at least broadband quality for multiplayer)
The CPU, graphics card, and RAM, however, will determine how well the game will run and are divided into minimum and recommended system specs.
Minimum Specs:
- ‘Quad-Core CPU (Intel Core 2 Quad, for example)
- 4 GB of RAM
- Directx 11 compatible video card with 2 GB video RAM
Recommended Specs:
- Eight Core CPU (Intel i7, for example)
- 8 GB of RAM
- Directx 11 compatble video card with 2 GB video RAM
Users interested in the maximum graphics settings will likely need one of the latest graphics cards (such as the Nvidia GTX 670 or the AMD Radeon HD 7970) to go along with the recommended specs.
