Quirkat have announced that their game Word Blocked has been included in PlayStation Mobiles international launch lineup. PlayStation Mobile went live on October 3rd worldwide.
Word Blocked is a word search game. However the game revolves around a 3×3 cube of letters that can be twisted and turned to align into words. The games developers have stated that Word Blocked mixes the classic anagram finding genre with the visual experience of a cube movement mechanic. In the game players must form longer words to get high scores and earn multipliers for series of words. Players will also be able to shake their device at any time to rearrange the letters on the cube.
Mahmoud Khasawneh, CEO of Quirkat spoke about the games release commenting:
“Sony’s support and including us for the PSM’s launch is truly an honour for our company. We’re super excited and hope that this introduces Quirkat’s games to an international audience. As a small indie studio based in the Middle East, this gives us an amazing sense of accomplishment.”
Word Blocked has two different modes of play, Time Limit and relaxed. In Time Limit mode you must find as many words as possible within the time limit. Use bombs and missiles to change the letters on the cube for greater word options. In the timed mode the player must find as many words as possible in a 2 minute time period. They will receive bonuses for consecutive words and this mode includes an added speed incentive. In Relaxed mode the player is encouraged to maximise their word count and value of their cube in an open amount of time. Gamers will be able to keep going until they voluntarily decide to end and are Word Blocked, or until the cube has no more words.
Candide Kirk, the Studio Head of Quirkat also commented on the game adding:
“Due to the abundance of anagram games on other platforms, we never thought of developing for that genre. However, with the PSM, we felt that the game mechanics and platform are made for each other. The cube of letters is the star of the game.The cube adds a puzzler aspect to the gameplay that is highly appealing to fans of handheld puzzle games such as the Rubik’s cube”
Word Blocked is now available to buy through the PlayStation Store for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation certified devices. The game is available for $1.99.
