A Vision in 3D Short Film Winner Announced

Nicholas Pratt has been announced the winner of ' A Vision in 3D ', a nation-wide competition by Nintendo and BFI (British Film Institute) and backed by Ridley Scott, that invited budding filmmakers to produce and submit a short 3D film made on Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL devices. The winning submission would then be shown at the BFI London Film Festival, along with help from industry experts in producing a new 3D short for the event!

Ridley Scott (Worked on Prometheus, Blade Runner, & Gladiator) the competition figurehead decided on the theme of the competition and based it off the theme "British Summer 2012" (Didn't quite happen did it? A Summer…Was more like a few good days)

Ridley Scott had this to say:

“Digital and 3D filmmaking is within the grasp of everyone these days. I’m excited by all the skill and talent that’s emerging in the UK, telling stories in different ways and it’s vital that it gets our support. This competition launched by the BFI and Nintendo opens up a big opportunity for emerging filmmakers to make their mark and they should grab it with both hands. I can’t wait to see the results.”

Nicholas Pratt's winning short film will be premiered on Monday 15th October, at 6pm, at Odeon West End at BFI London Film Festival. The film festival will run from the 10th to the 21st of October 2012, in partnership with American Express.

Nicholas Pratt, the winner, is a 20 year-old student learning Japanese at London's SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) had this to say about the news:

“I’m really excited to have this opportunity to get involved in the film industry! It will be incredible to watch the film on the big screen with an audience and walk the red carpet – I’m pinching myself here!“

The BFI London Film Festival presents the best new British and international films to an ever increasing audience. It also provides career opportunities for British and international filmmakers, through its industry and awards programmes. It really gives a helping hand.

Nicholas, mentored by Stuart Warren-Hill (Audiovisual artist and innovator in electronic music) and director Asif Kapadia (BAFTA award winning British filmmaker) has been working on shooting his new short film, with help from Malcolm Hadley (Director of Photography) to also be screened at the Nintendo Gala.

Tom Rule, Jamie Mitchell and Charlie Doran were competition runner-ups and will each receive a pair of tickets for the BFI London Film Festival, and a BFI Membership for one year.

All the 4 films produced will be viewable at the BFI Southbank from early October on Nintendo 3DS XL pods. They will also be viewable from the 31st October to the 21st November on all Nintendo 3DS XL consoles.

Clare Stewart, the festival director and Head of Exhibition added:

The BFI London Film Festival is thrilled to be working with Nintendo on this innovative new partnership that provides an opportunity for emerging filmmaking talent to be mentored in 3D filmmaking and we look forward to showcasing the winning film at the festival this October.”

Nintendo and BFI will be working on a number of new 3D content projects and as soon as they are announced, we will be sure to tell you of them.
