Age of Wulin is a free-to-play MMORPG created by Gala Networks Europe in Dublin, Ireland. The free-to-play publisher gave off some insight today into what Age of Wulin’s combat styles and sects would be all about. With a strong focus on action, the “good,” “evil,” and “neutral” gameplay will involve mastering different combinations of various martial arts skills, and each character will feature their own techniques and abilities.
The path you choose will be divided up into different sects ordered by various strategies and backgrounds. The characters will all have a unique fighting style, but each class will primarily gravitate towards good, neutral, or evil. The full list of sects you can choose were listed as Shaolin, Wudang, Emei, Beggars’ Sect, Blissful Valley, Royal Guards, Scholar’s Academy, and Tang Clan.
Starting with the “Good” sects characters will be strongly focused on melee combat, while also using weapons like swords and daggers. The “Good” sects include the Wudang which is skilled in dual wielding blades, the Shaolin who are excellent at close quarters combat with a staff and bare fists. Finally, the Emei and Beggar’s Sect will appear in the “Good” category as well, with strong features in healing, endurance, and powerful palm attacks.
Meanwhile, characters falling into the “Evil” sect are highly skilled with cunning techniques and devastating blade attacks. The terrifying Blissful Valley class contains a sinister, assassin like fighting style utilizing ranged attacks, hidden traps, and short swords. While at the other end of the scale, Royal Gaurds are capable of both heavy attacks and defending using brutal claw type weapons, although succumbing to a punishment of lengthy cooldown times.
Last but not least, come the “Neutral” sects which are far from similar to any of the previous characters. The unique Tang Clan acquires power through negative buff skills and absorption through their use of daggers and concealed weapons. Scholar’s Academy remains quite different as well featuring an effortless dance-like fighting style, which enables the character to engage several enemies at once. This is all done through high kicks and dual swords.
Even though every sect has a different fighting style, all sects are able to use whats called “Light-body Skills,” meaning the character can become almost weightless. Allowing them to climb walls, jump higher with little effort and traverse across water. This feather like mode can be used together with combat to allow a greater variety of moves and tactics. Successful combat is acquired by proper skill use, preparation, and information on the chosen opponents weaknesses.
