An In-Depth Analysis of Lego Lord of the Rings

I remember the expression on my girlfriend’s face when I told her I had never seen any of the Lord of the Rings movies. If I had to describe it, I would say it was a mix of disgust and absolute bewilderment, with a tiny dash of doubt as to if this relationship would last. Consequently, she forced me to wake up at 6 in the morning, and watch each of the three movies in order. I can honestly say, my life hasn’t quite been the same ever since. That’s why I was thrilled to hear that the good people of Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment will be releasing a LEGO-based video game on the epic trilogy.

Similar to the highly successful LEGO batman and LEGO star wars series, the LEGO Lord of the Rings will feature a multitude of characters that we have grown to know and love, from the brave and honest Frodo Baggins, to the cunning and wise Gandalf (available in both Grey and White!), all the way to the evil witch-king, Balrog, and of course, the eye of Sauron. Unlike the LEGO star wars games, which utilized two separate installments to narrate the six episodes, LEGO Lord of the Rings will encompass the entire saga in one game, from the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring to the epic conclusion atop Mt. Doom. To add to the atmosphere of the world, the game will feature dialogue from the actual movie, which is amazing, since actors such as Elijah Wood and Ian McKellan fit their character perfectly.

The game will feature over 80 playabler characters from the Rings universe and explore several famous locations, such as Gondor, Hobbiton, and the mines of Moria. Additional players can seamlessly join in and out of gameplay, and with the vast array of character selection, this is a game made for multiple players. Players can defend themselves with many weapons, such as bows and arrows, swords, or axes, that they can either find or create using mythril, the most precious metal in Middle-Earth. With the amount of customization and selection available, it tailors extremely well to the player, and they can play this game the way they want.

With the sheer fan base of this saga, and the high success of its predecessors, LEGO Lord of the Rings has a lot of high expectations it needs to deliver on. I’m confident, however, that everyone who plays this game will, like I did, learn to fall in love all over again.
