Beats Slider, is a rather odd indie game coming out of the UK this year by developers FuturLab. From what I understand, the game is called Beats Slider because surprisingly enough it lets you slide around beats. The point of the game is to solve a normal looking puzzle, except with a musical twist at your every move.
Ever use Fruity Loops? Or any other sort of computer synthesizer program that involves creating your own awesome dubstep beats? Maybe you've only used a basic MIDI Keyboard before. Either way, Beats Slider is a game that creates music based on these inputs, only in a puzzle game form. Rather then all the technical jargon. In this instance, every block of the puzzle is made up of MIDI data, so its essentially a musical note that computers can read. That in turn also allows you to recreate and playback any instrument, ever. Depending on which puzzle block you trigger, it might set off a drum loop, or a techy synthesizer. Whatever you hit can change the beat and overall pattern.
To put it all into perspective, the creators of the game basically wanted to allow the player to create all kinds of crazy music, and put together whatever sort of beats, melodies, and loops that they could come up with. The developer also has said that after a while this will teach the player to solve even the most difficult of puzzles, all because the mind gets used to the musical notes.
The game will be available to play on the Playstation Vita, and all playstation certified devices, including any smartphones like the Xperia or HTC related devices.
I'm afraid no release date has yet been given for the game except to expect it soon, but for a bit more information you can check out their main page, here.
