Console gamers looking to get a taste of one of gaming’s most well-known RPGs and to raise hell in their living rooms will get their chance when Diablo III releases for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this September 3.
The fastest-selling PC game of all time will be “custom-tailored for gamepad-driven action, with a dynamic camera perspective that puts your hero front and center, as well as an all-new user interface and an intuitive control system.”
Players will be able to take their fight against the denizens of the Burning Hells in local or online cooperative action over PlayStation Network or Xbox Live. And, of course, players will be able to create a party consisting of both local and online players.
Pre-orders are now being taken, and – as has been the strategy of many gaming companies – there are bonuses for those who purchase the game in-advance. The Infernal Helm, “which grants an experience point boost to any character who wears it, accelerating their progression as they rise to power,” will be granted to those who fork over the retail price of £49.99 ahead of the September release. Limited edition pre-order bonuses also are available, but those are up to the discretion of local retailers.
“In addition to the fine-tuning we’ve done for the console versions, we’re also including major content and design updates we’ve made to the PC version over the past year, so players can expect an epic Diablo gaming experience,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.
Diablo III was released on PC and Mac on May 15, 2012, and within 24 hours became the fastest-selling PC game of all time. By December 31, 2012, it had sold 12 million copies worldwide.
In the game, players take on the role of one of five characters – barbarian, witch doctor, wizard, monk, or demon hunter – and try to save the world of Sanctuary from the demons of Burning Hells.
Diablo III is considered by many fans as the penultimate hack-and-slash dungeon crawling RPG that has a heavy emphasis on “grinding.”
There is no subscription required to play.
