What we have today is a gameplay trailer for the FPS Dishonored, the supernatural assassin action game under development at Arkane® Studios.
Dishonored is set in Dunwall, an industrial whaling city where steampunk- inspired technology and otherworldly forces coexist in the shadows. You are Corvo, the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress who has been murdered. Framed for the crime, you become an infamous assassin, known by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is besieged by plague and ruled by a corrupt government armed with frightening technologies, dark forces bestow supernatural abilities upon you – but at what cost? The truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city, and the life you once had is gone forever.
The trailer shows us different spells and gadgets that the player can use to creatively eliminate enemies. This is an interesting combination we have seen in a couple games but it is dependent on how well it is executed. Moving on to the trailer, the trailer starts with the player killing an enemy by slitting his throat from behind followed by the daring escapes which make the game more attention-grabbing and entertaining.
First we have the long jump. The player can leap to another place with the help of this spell. This can be used to avoid crowds of enemies or for quick maneuvering on the map. The long jump is a pretty common spell in video games and now is kind of becoming a given in most genres and types of games. Upon using the long jump the players see the destination of arrival indicated by a blue dot kind thing.
We also get to see some sword action in the trailer. From the looks of it the combat is a bit dependant on timing rather than fast tapping of the attack button. The finishing move was quiet impressive as the player cuts off the enemy’s head. The next daring escape is called Sleep Tight. In simple words the spell freeze. It can be pretty useful if you find yourself encountered by more than a few enemies and the long jump doesn’t work. Another feature the game offers is that the bodies of the enemies can be picked and dropped to hide them or just have fun.
The last daring escape is called Chain Possession, aka mind control. As the name implies and all gamers know, mind control means to control the enemy. It can be used to distract a bunch of enemies or move the guards to another place if you want to get through without being noticed.
Dishonored is set to release 12.10.2012
