If you are a regular visitor to the site, you will have noticed that I have written a few articles on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. I had a rough idea on how the game itself would play thanks to it being very reminiscent of Super Smash Bros. It wasn't until I played the game for myself did I get a true idea on what the game is like.
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale has a roster of 20 characters, for obvious reasons only around 6 were playable at Eurogamer, including the one and only Kratos! So me and my friend sat down with 2 other players and battled each other for the pride and the chance to do a victory fist pump. I was Kratos as I wanted to see how SuperBot Entertainment had incorporated different characters play styles into the game. To my relief Kratos still feels like he should, he still has iconic moves within his arsenal and uses them to dominate the battlefield as well as the Blade of Olympus as a special move. As with all the characters I saw, they all seemed to maintain iconic stances and moves which is a good sign for the game.
Gameplay of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is as you would expect, fast paced and explosive. At certain points during the fight i lost where my character was on screen due to being slapped around the screen so much, but that was all part of the fun. Which brings me to my next point. The game is extremely fun. I sat there with my best friend just having a few laughs and enjoying the game, which i can see is a feeling that is slowly dying out within certain games, as many multi-player games are filled with people looking to verbally destroy you in some manner, Playstation All-Stars just gives you the control and basically says 'go beat up some characters, but don't forget to have fun'.
The game also features a variety of stages, each stage is influenced by various PlayStation franchises. My two favourites so far would be the stage featuring Hades and the Jak and Daxter stage, simply for the nostalgic feel of them and the way the Hades stage plays out is a show of the humourus side of Playstation. The full game will feature 14 stages based upon different Playstation franchises for you to lay the smack down on your opponents.
The full game will also feature cross buy, where if you purchase it for the Playstation 3, you get it for your Vita too, which enables Playstation 3 players to battle Vita players.
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale will be released in November 2012 on Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita.
