The developer of the upcoming free-to-play massive multiplayer online game, Firefall has announced their first official Open Beta tournament series. Red 5 Studios in partnership with the Electronic Sports League have stated that their “Go4Firefall” tournament will start on Sunday, August 4th and will run in both the United States and Europe.
Players can compete in weekly cups featuring Firefall’s new game type Jetball. In Jetball each team tries to throw a “high-tech ball” into their opponents goal. The player with the ball can’t shoot, so they have to rely on the protection of their teammates to get the opposite goal.
As well as bragging rights, each week the participants compete for a $1000/€1000 (depending on if you are in America or in Europe) prize pool and points for their monthly ranking. The eight highest ranked teams will be picked to battle in the monthly tournament and a chance to win five grand!
The Go4Firefall prize pools are going to be divided between the top three team members based on the amount of points they made during the match. For the weekly prize of $1000/€1000, the number one player on the team will receive five hundred whatever currency, the second gets three hundred, the third two hundred. It’s much the same for the five grand, except the top player gets three grand, second fifteen hundred and the third five hundred.
Each team has the opportunity to win up to $9000/€9000 and an individual can win up to thirty-five hundred whatevers. The prizes don’t seem equal for the Americans as $1000 is around €650, but who cares? Free money!
