GDC Europe 2013: Halo 4 co-op and Top Eleven

Today organizers have announced that Halo 4 and its Spartan Op’s and Top eleven would be added to their lectures in August. the talks will be apart of business and programming tracks at GDC, taking place August 19th-21st, in Cologne Congress-Centrum Ost in Cologne, Germany. This event takes place before Gamescom, which will have a record 275,000 people attending this year.

343 Industries lead designer of Spartan Op’s, Chris Haluke, will share details about the design that went into creating an episode style, multiplayer feature for the mega hit franchise. His speech will include some of the main features Haluke stood by and the choice to include accessibility, compelling story and game play, and the process of making sure continuity matched the overall adventure.

The next key speaker will be studio Nordeus head of business development Nikola Cavic, who will present the company’s strong initiative for success in the social market. They will argue that the ever growing markets have been growing in populations and with an increase in monetary value that has been ignored by major developers.

In his speech, he will discuss how Top Eleven achieved success through growing markets. Cavic will share how developer Nordeus has targeted and accepted markets outside the United States and the UK, with 11 million users monthly, and 40 million registered members. All of this was done in a three year span for its sport management game online.

The last speaker will be Andre Weissflog, head of development for Bigpoint’s, publisher for Battlestar Galatica and Drakensang. He will talk about how the technology to port huge 3D games is approaching, but not without faults, In the C++ lecture called Browser: a tale of from the trenches. In the lecture, attendants will learn of the disadvantages and advantages of the technology in C++-to-web.

Weissflog, will explain the process behind the native client, flascc and emscripten, with more focus on the latter. Tips will include ways to manage and prepare ports to existing code bases and ways to deal with the limitation it presents.
