Racing goes into 5th gear this month as over 830,000 Gran Turismo fans scramble into this year’s PlayStation® GT Academy Online Competition.
This marked the biggest event in GT history as over 161,000 UK racing fans clambered for the qualifiers and duked it out on the new virtual simulation of Twin Ring Motegi circuit. Participants were treated with the chance of driving a range of virtual Nissan cars on a variety of Classic GT Academy tracks before competing in the one lap time trial of Twin Ring in a Nissan 370Z.
Would you have what it takes to be a GT Academy Driver?
By the end of the dust filled event only the sixteen fastest gamers will be elegibal to move onto the next round in a National Final event at Silverstone Circuit on the 17th and 18th of July. The sixteen lucky contenders will do battle against sixteen Live Event Wild Card winners as they prove their skills once again behind the wheel of the Nissan 370Z.
For two days tyres will wear out and engines will overheat as only six leading participants of the UK and Ireland qualifying selection will return to British soil and be treated to the International Race Camp. Here they will endure a series of challenges that will test their driving skills while also taking on a number of physical and mental challenges, ultimately molding them into professional racing drivers.
Finally the leading competitors of both the UK and Ireland will settle the scores against other European finalists and ultimately through virtual blood, sweat and tears be selected as the crowned 2012 GT Academy European Champion.
Not only will the champion be awarded bragging rights throughout the whole of Europe but the crowned victor will also be given the massive prize of a drive in a real fully race-spec Nissan 370Z GT4 racing car in the Dubai 24 Hour race in January 2013.
