The indie game developer Panda Knife Tree has announced their first game, Legends of Firestorm. The game will be a massively multiplayer Action Role-Playing game (ARPG).
“Our goal has been to create a game that focuses on delivering awesome combat in a sociable setting!”
Legends of Firestorm aims to bring combat elements from games like God of War, and the MMO aspect of games like World of Warcraft. However, instead of downloading the game, Panda Knife Tree says Legends of Firestorm will be an in-browser game so the game can be as easily playable as a game like MechQuest.
As of now, the game is in “mid development” and their engine is close to being finished, however a lot of polish is needed to get the game ready for release. The developer plans to have classes such as healer, “damage-dealer”, and tank as available types of characters to choose from. They plan to use these classes as it will broaden the amount of strategic planning required by the players. The attacks for each type of character will be much the same, however the special hotkeyed commands will make them unique.
Legends of Firestorm is targeted towards the gamers who subscribe to the MMO genre as they aim to create an experience in which the player never runs out of things to do. Panda Knife Tree is trying to do this by emulating games like World of Warcraft and Mario Galaxy for their challenges and overall ability to keep gamers involved.
The engine in development for Legends of Firestorm will feature the ability to have instanced areas be many different sizes, from a simple dungeon or a very large gameplay zone. With this, they plan to create much grander scripted quests than in other MMOs. A great example of using this is having an entire town destroyed after a certain part in the storyline, which can be implemented in many fantastic ways in-game.
With all these pretty awesome things, Panda Knife Tree has said they are putting emphasis on quests, and have been working on a part of their engine that will allow for easier quest authoring in order to make a more compelling and fun storyline. They expect that aspect of the engine to be done in a few months, and after that it’s just polishing up the game for release.
