Journey and Dishonored Win at the British Academy Games Awards 2013

Journey picThe British Academy Games Awards 2013 results are in with Journey winning big with five awards.

The Walking Dead and The Unfinished Swan both won two awards; Dishonored was also awarded best game.

The show was once again hosted by Dara O’ Briain and supported by official partner GAME.

Journey, the indie game developed by Thatgamecompany won five of the eight categories in which it was nominated. Journey was awarded the BAFTAs for Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Game Design, Online Multiplayer and Original Music at the British Academy Games Awards.

However, Arkane Studio’s fantastic stealth action adventure Dishonored took home the coveted Best Game Award.

Danny Wallace was awarded with his first BAFTA winning the Best Performer category for his work as the narrator in Thomas was Alone, the hit indie puzzle game.

The Walking Dead, the episodic point-and-click adventure role-playing game from TellTale Games picked up the Mobile and Handheld and Story BAFTAs.

The Unfinished Swan, a game which explores the unknown, collected the Awards for Best Game Innovation and Debut Game.

Valve’s Gabe Newell was the recipient of the prestigious Bafta fellowship of 2013 for his outstanding and exceptional creative contribution to the Games industry.

Gabe Newell spoke about his award saying;

“I look forward to accepting this prestigious honour on behalf of everyone in our community”

The Award for Best British Game was presented toThe Room. The Room is a puzzle adventure game from British developers Fireproof Games, which the jury described as “An engaging, enigmatic, beautiful, slow burn tactile puzzle game.”

Far Cry 3, the open world first-person shooter collected the Award for Bes tAction Game. XCOM: Enemy Unknown, also took home the Award for Strategy.

British Developers Travellers Tales collected the Family Award for LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. In the Online-Browser category, SongPop, the online multiplayer music quiz, took away the BAFTA. Finally New Star Soccer collected the Award for Best Sports/Fitness Game.

Starcrossed took this year’sBAFTA Ones to Watch Award in association with Dare to be Digital.

An Awards highlight’s show will be televised on Challenge (Sky: Ch 125, Freeview: Ch 46, Virgin: Ch 139) on Monday 11 March at 10pm.
