Supposedly chest-high walls, a stable of modern shooters, might go well with RTS elements in Uprising44.
DMD Enterprise has been hard at work at the World War II shooter Uprising44: The Silent Shadows. The game borrows elements from modern shooters like third-person perspective, like a cover system used by burly men to hide behind while bullet wounds magically heal in seconds (Just like real life!). However DMD Enterprise will be implementing an RTS element in the game by guiding multiple units to cover systems from a bird's eye view, along with a different perspective on World War II.
Get ready for a history lessons as Uprising44 is based upon the events of Warsaw Uprising in 1944. When the Germans were retreating from Poland, a rebel force of Poles tried taking back the city of Warsaw with the help of the Russian army coming from the East. Due to some possible political sabotage, the Russians withdrawn from the area, leaving the Polish rebels to fight off the Germans in the streets of Warsaw. The amount of casualties from this battle are still unknown to this day, yet it seems like many brave Poles paid the price with their lives to reclaim the city from the Germans, and without the Russians from getting it.
Uprising44 will be focusing around the Silent Shadows, paratroopers dropped behind German lines to organize resistance and use diversionary tactics to reclaim Warsaw. DMD Enterprise claims that the story in Uprising44 will ensure a 'dynamic and enjoyable game'. The scenario for this game is intriguing as it shows how untrained civilians fought against Germans during World War II. Being North American I only just heard of it right now, and can only imagine how tough it would be to reclaim your home.
I'm not sure if Uprising44's release trailer highlights its strong points. The core mechanics are always on screen and familiar to gamers of modern shooters. Yet there is little in the way of explaining the context of this game's setting, or what the Silent Shadows are struggling to do. The RTS elements look fine, but Uprising44 seems to focus more on the modern shooter mechanics. Still, if you are looking for a game that mixes RTS elements with shooter gameplay, then Uprising44 might be worth a look.
Uprising44 is available now via digital distribution for PC and Macintosh. You can purchase the game from GetGames go, GreenManGaming, and GamersGate.
