Nintendo tops sale charts with Nintendo 3DS the best selling platform in the U.S.

NINTENDO 3DS finished June as the best-selling platform in the U.S., selling nearly 225,000 units of hardware. The launch of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon boosted Nintendo 3DS hardware and software sales by nearly 105 percent compared to summer 2012 landing Nintendo three of the top five best selling software SKUs for the month. In the first six months of 2013, Nintendo sold nearly 3.6 million physical and digital units of software for the Nintendo 3DS beating sales in the same time frame last year by 85 percent. Will July award Nintendo 3DS the best selling platform title?

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

OF THE THREE CHART-TOPPING TITLES, Animal Crossing: New Leaf came in third place, selling over 505,000 physical and digital units in June. More than 20 percent of the sales were through the Nintendo eShop and are predicted to grow well into July as well, boosting Animal Crossing: New Leaf to be one of their biggest summer games.

DONKEY KONG VS. LUIGI’S MANSION. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D came in second, selling more than 108,000 combined units in its second month. While Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon trumped first with nearly 115,000 units sold in its fourth month, bringing a grand total of more than 750,000 combined units.

THIS IS ONLY HALFTIME for Nintendo, who will build up their momentum with the Nintendo 3DS launches of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (Aug.11), Pokémon X and Pokémon Y (Oct. 12), Mario Party (Nov.) and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (Nov.). Some big contenders yet to come, odds of another Nintendo 3DS best selling title is looking good. Not only do gamers have these amazing titles to look forward to on the 3DS but starting in August the Wii U will roll in some big title launches such as Pikmin 3 (Aug. 4), The Wonderful 101 (Sept. 15), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Oct.), Wii Party U (Oct.), Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Nov), Super Mario 3D World (Dec) and Wii Fit U (Dec.).
