Ouya Brings Big Hype in Small Package

Ouya Brings Big Hype in Small Package

New information concerning the Android game console the Ouya has been released to the public. Imagine this: a gaming system that had the portability of a Rubik’s Cube. To give you an idea of how small that is, a traditional Rubik’s Cube measures 2.2 inches in width, length, and depth. You wouldn’t have to worry about how to pack it or the weight if you ever decided to take over to a friend’s house or with you on your travels. Pretty awesome thought, huh?

According to the lead hardware designer for the Ouya Yves Béhar, the new system, which is currently under development, is going to meet such specifications. Taking the less traditional route of both the Xbox and Playstation consoles, Ouya’s developers are aiming for a design that is unique in regards to hardware design.

Fuseproject’s system is expected to contain an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core ARM processor, 1GB memory, 8GB of Flash storage, and two USB ports.

The miniature size will play a vital role in Ouya’s design and visual appeal according to its hardware designers.

The controllers will not be going under the shrink ray however. The Ouya’s controllers are predicted to be around the same size as the classic Xbox and Playstation controllers.

The Tegra chipset will be given room to breathe to hopefully increase airflow. With a system so small, it is bound to get a little warm.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Ouya, it is a hackable Android gaming console currently under development. Set for release in 2013, Ouya has generated hype and is backed by tens of thousands of people. On its first day, Ouya generated $2.3 million on Kickstarter, and the support since then has only risen. Now, 42,000 look forward to the console’s release, evident in the $5.4 million donated to Kickstarter by them.
