PlanetSide 2 coming to Russia

Gamers looking for jetpacks in Russia won't have to look any further than Sony Online Entertainment's PlanetSide 2.

I'm concerned with Western shooter games being available in foreign countries.  There's a good chance that the game will make that foreigner the bad guy in the game.  Threatening the innocent, snot-nosed children of North America with their religious beliefs, and the only way to remove them is for a North American avatar to tell them to bugger off – with bullets.  Fortunately Sony Online Entertainment's PlanetSide 2 doesn't even exist on the same planet, so Russian gamers won't have to worry about being the bad guys in this game.

Sony Online Entertainment has sealed a deal with Innova Systems to bring PlanetSide 2 over to Russian-speaking territories, when the MMOFPS becomes available near the end of this year.  Dedicated servers, local customer support, and the same free-to-play model will be provided.  Other international territories will have access to PlanetSide 2, such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine.

PlanetSide 2 is a science-fiction Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter game that puts players into three factions.  Each faction seems to have universal classes and vehicles, but their aesthetics are drastically different.  The game will span over huge continents on the alien planet Auraxis, where intense ground and air combat could last for days or weeks.  Sony Online Entertainment also promise that everything we love about MMO games and modern shooters will be provided in PlanetSide 2.

I haven't been keeping up with the current changes with shooter games, but most of them look to be a step backwards for me.  Limited inventory of guns could be handled by only giving specific ammo for a gun.  Regenerating health negates the effect of combat.  And I'd rather shoot demons in DOOM over racist personifications of a different county and be called a 'hero' for doing that.  So Sony Online Entertainment promising that PlanetSide 2 will have these 'innovations' from modern shooters makes me hesitant in playing the free-to-play game.  Until a couple trailers for PlanetSide 2 shows off the use of jetpacks.

I see what you did there, Sony.
