The annual Global Game Jam created 86 games this year during its event held in the Netherlands over January 25-27.
The 5th annual Global Game Jam this year showcased over 500 professional game developers, students, game enthusiasts, and journalists gathered to create top notch games for our entertainment. The gaming jamboree took place in the town of Breda at the International Game Architecture and Design school with one game standing out over the rest. Titled RU-PAM and created by freshmen and sophomores, the idea calls for a two players to control one sniper rifle. One player mans the scope while the other mans the trigger. Once a target is acquired by the sights the player wielding the Playstation Move controller is alerted by a rumble feature allowing them a clean line of fire to hit said target. A new twist on a classic game type, good job team.
Heart to Get was another game, invented at the Utrecht School of the Arts, that requires the use of the genius MaKey MaKey invention to control the game via kidneys. I must add that they are not actual human kidneys but this sounds like one great game.
Another amazing idea at the Global Game Jam was a game involving ones own heartbeat. In B-Minus 50 the player must reach a high enough level before their heart beats 50 times. Folks from SilverFit, the engineers behind using video games as virtual rehabilitation, helped design the game as well.
Results for the best designed video game at the Global Game Jam will be on display at the Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam, February 19th. The creators of said games will then be able to auction it off to businesses or publishers or pitch it off to be funded.
The Global Game Jam prides itself in having the capability to provide opportunities for those interested in creating a game to do just that. For a complete list of games created at the event this year, check out http://globalgamejam.org/
