Capcom has finally admitted that people are getting tired of Street Fighter, Mega Man, and Resident Evil sequels, so they’re creating a new series called “Remember Me.” The game looks very polished, and it features a futuristic setting in which, “Personal memories can now be digitized, bought, sold and traded. The last remnants of privacy and intimacy have been swept away in what appears to be a logical progression of the explosive growth of social networks at the beginning of the 21st century. The citizens themselves have accepted this surveillance society in exchange for the comfort only smart technology can provide. This memory economy gives immense power over society to just a handful of people.” So that’s terrifying. Time to shut down those Facebook accounts and live off the grid.
Another interesting aspect of Remember Me is the fact that the protagonist is a woman. I know, right? She is a former “elite memory hunter” who can enter the minds of others and steal or alter their memories. The authorities fear her, because authorities always fear people to whom they give too much power, so they wipe her memory and imprison her. She breaks out of prison and tries to find out who she was before her mind was erased. So she’s a woman and a badass. Well done, Capcom.
The video shows that there are over 50,000 combos available to players in combat in Remember Me. Whenever I hear about advanced levels of customization in a game, it makes me nervous because I know I’ll inevitably pick the worst combinations and screw up my character. My first run-through, I’ll just end up spamming one attack that I like and annoying the heck out of my friends. That’s probably why they don’t play with me anymore. Because I’m that good.
