Steam Welcomes Might & Magic Duel of Champions

Might & Magic Duel of Champions

Ubisoft Allows Might & Magic Duel of Champions on Steam

Might & Magic Duel of Champions has grown to more than 1.5 million players.  It is a strategic card game set in the classic Might & Magic universe that is free-to-play and published by Ubisoft.  In a somewhat surprising move given Ubisoft’s proprietary uPlay distribution platform, it has just released on Steam.  Steam players can join the existing players on both PC and iPad in this fast-growing eSports hit.

Live producer at Ubisoft Quebec Samuel Jobin attributes much of the game’s success to its latest expansion pack and welcomes the addition of Steam support:

“Our most recent expansion, Forgotten Wars, doubled player numbers and now the game’s arrival to Steam creates a new way to reach PC gamers who are our core fans and the base of our community.”

Might and Magic Duel of ChampionsDuel of Champions is becoming a quick eSports mainstay.  Most recently, a world championship was held during Paris Games Week, with thousands of players participating.  Jobin identifies this contest as the point at which the potential of Duel of Champions as an eSport was recognized.  Its suitability for eSports likely stems from its design as requiring skill because every player has an equal starting point, unlike games that utilize a tree of unlockable abilities that makes more experienced players far more likely to win.

Ubisoft is committed to fostering Might &Magic Duel of Champions’ eSports potential.  Jobin adds,

“We will continue looking for ways to integrate community competitions into the game to empower our user-base of players and enable them to run even more events.”

More information about Might & Magic Duel of Champions can be found at its website.  It can be downloaded and played from this site or using either Ubisoft’s uPlay software or Steam.  It is free to play, so there’s no risk to trying it.
