PSone cult-classic Tomba! 2: The Great Adventure is now available on Playstation 3, PSP and PS Vita for $5.99 from the Playstation Network.
The platformer has been released entirely in its original Japanese form as the final part of MonkeyPaw Games’ six week ‘Retro-Rush’ campaign to bring classic PSone titles to modern audiences.
Tomba! 2: The Great Adventure
Tomba! 2 was originally released in Japan in 1999, and built upon the success of the original Tomba! with improved graphics and more gameplay options. Now released entirely in its original Japanese form, Tomba! 2: The Great Adventure gives entirely new audiences the chance to play the cult classic.
The Tomba! 2 PSN rerelease introduces a new generation to the game’s classic platforming gameplay.
Popular upon its original release Tomba! 2 is described as ‘a platform gamer’s dream’ by MonkeyPaw Games.
The storyline sees players control the eponymous Tomba! as he seeks to solve the mystery of his friends disappearance.
Tomba! 2 expands on the success of the original game by including graphical upgrades, an increased diversity of missions and power suits that can grant ‘Tomba! Special’ abilities. Despite these additions, the game managed to maintain many of the charms of the original title, and the release on new systems will bring the experience to an entirely new audience.
Designed as a ‘true import’ the Tomba! 2 PSN rerelease is entirely in the original Japanese form, complete with Japanese text and instructions. MonkeyPaw’s Retro Rush
Double Dragon was the first game re-released as part of MonkeyPaw’s Retro-Rush Event.
First released as a digital download for Japanese audiences in September 2011, Tomba! 2 has finally made its way to American audiences as part of MonkeyPaw Games’ ‘Retro-Rush’ event.
Beginning on January 14th, the ‘Retro-Rush’ event has seen the release of five classic PSone titles to the Playstation Network for PS3, PSP and PS Vita. Games such as Double Dragon and Lucifer Ring have been made available, though planned release Hyper Crazy Climber hit a legal block and has been delayed, though a release is expected before the end of March.
Tomba! 2 is described by MonkeyPaw Games as one of the ‘most requested’ PSone rereleases, and accordingly serves as the culmination of the ‘Retro-Rush’ event.
Tomba! 2: The Great Adventure is available in the US for the Playstation 3, PSP and PS Vita from the Playstation Network at the cost of $5.99, though the price is expected to rise to $9.99 in the near future.
