Ubisoft, to fans delight, announced that the highly anticpated Watch Dogs would release with the launch of the Playstation 4.
Ubisoft was generous enough to allow us to see a live demo of the game at the Playstation 4 unveiling event. Watch Dogs is pending rating but is surely looking towards a Mature rating for an 18+ audience. Watch Dogs will not only release on the PS4 but is going also going to be available on the PS3, Xbox360, Wii U, and Windows PC.
Watch Dogs is leading the next generation of consoles with their ambitious hack friendly open world experience. Watch Dogs is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal with support from Ubisoft Bucharest, Paris, Quebec and Reflection studios. The game has already received more than 83 awards and nominations at E3 2012 where it was first delivered to the public.
Watch Dogs take the hyper connectivity of our lives to the extreme by taking the social elements of the proverbial “big brother” and expands it to a city. In the world of Watch Dogs, Chicago is being controlled by a “ctOS” [City Operating System] which is a super computer that watches over and governs the day to day lives of civilians in the city. Whether it’s traffic lights or bridge controls the ctOS does it all. Thus allowing the police to better govern the general public.
Aiden Pearce, the protagonist that players will get their hands on in Watch Dogs, is a man shaped by violence and is obsessed with surveillance. This man monitors his family 24/7 in secret to protect them from events of the past. Aiden Pearce must take matters into his own hands to confront the corrupt system and use every weapon availble to him.
Below is the unveiling of the Live Demo at the Playstation 4 Conference.
All but too familiar with organic bustling cities, Ubisoft, the developers of the hit series ‘Assassins Creed,’ has made Watch Dogs in such a way that as players explore the city, whether scaling buildings or driving through the city, they will be able to feel the organic nature of Chicago. In the video, you are sure to have noticed that the city, and it’s people, are so realistic that the player can even hack the people of Chicago’s bank accounts and steal their money at the nearest ATM. Talk about easy money. The question is, “What kind of consequences will these actions hold in the long run?”
Johnathan Morin, Creative Director said,
In WATCH DOGS, every open world moment needs to be treated seriously. Every action the player takes will have a direct consequence. When you cause chaos, people will be endangered. The media will talk about it. They will influence how the population perceives your actions and it will alter your relationship with the world.
In the game, there will be a Reputation System that will focus on the player’s attitude towards collateral damages. Is he causing a lot of havoc that injures or kills citizens? Is he acting heroically or like a criminal? Each action will have Positive and Negative effects.
Watch Dogs is built in a way that players have to decide how Aiden Pearce chooses to go about helping out the corrupt system. The city will view him differently based on those choices.Ubisoft pulled out all of the stops and got the developers of the famous Driver series to come in and help out in equipping players with over 65 vehicles, more than 30 traditional weapons (including Pearce’s baton), a slow-mo mechanic called ‘focus’, and of course the ability to take over and manipulate the ctOS and anything connected to it. All of this developed with state-of-the-art physics simulations.
Watch Dogs promises to be quite a game that no one will want to miss.
