Wii U Europe Release Delayed

Wii U Europe Release Delayed

According to a recent article from CVG, Nintendo is frantically scrambling to get its new system out before the new year hits. Only four months remain before the cold holiday season rushes in, and various rumors have been reported that the hotly anticipated Wii U console will release in early December across Europe. Which completely misses the November launch window that Nintendo had earlier decided upon. Despite of the delay, Nintendo still is set on launching the system in the US before the Thanksgiving holiday, as said by CVG.

The problem seems to be related to the console’s complicated GamePad, an intriguing design of a 6.2 inch touchscreen display, front camera, motion-sensor, and Near field communication tech. All while utilizing its own power supply and built to be completely wireless. Manufacturing difficulties are a common thing for up and coming consoles, and looks to be the reason why Nintendo has been hesitant to announce a new “official” release date. Back in July, a major publishing firm executive who works closely with Nintendo said to CVG that the release date for Europe may even slip over into 2013. But Nintendo has since re-assured everyone that the Wii U will absolutely be in our living rooms by the end of 2012.

Nintendo has of course declined to make a comment on the matter, but the lead games analyst for IHS Screen Diges, Piers-Harding Rolls has said “In general, my outlook is that Wii U console sales will not replicate the success of the Wii. Aside from more intense competition from various other connected devices, the Wii U second-screen dynamic is a more complex consumer proposition compared to the Wii and is much harder to market.” He goes on to add “The big question is the extent of cannibalisation of Wii sales by the Wii U.”

The original Wii launched back in 2006, and set astronomical records for the fasting selling games console ever, across many different continents. Piers-Harding Rolls went on to tell CVG that Nintendo could possibly reach 4 million unit sales of the Wii U by the end of the financial year, but also said that entirely depends on “launch price and timing.”
