YouTube Could Go Somewhat Pay To Play

Some YouTube channel subscriptions as early as next quarter could need a monthly payment to access and play. Don’t worry too much as it is very unlikely that a channel you are subscribed to will simply switch to a payment scheme.
Chances are, channels will be built around this, offering more content at a cost of around 1-5 dollars a month or 63p-£3.17 when converted, to paid subscribers.

Possible channels could include entire libraries of videos, live broadcasts, self-help, and financial advice shows. In that sense, Youtube could become a TV style channel offering more live broadcasts, more often, and spark a lot more shows with higher production costs.

To start with, Youtube plan to roll out 25 new channels, to check how they perform. Increased ad revenue would also follow with providers able to place ads in their paid channels.

Google had this to say:

“We have long maintained that different content requires different types of payment models,” a Google spokesman told AdAge. “The important thing is that, regardless of the model, our creators succeed on the platform. There are a lot of our content creators that think they would benefit from subscriptions, so we’re looking at that.”

What do you think about this? Would you be willing to part money a month for a channel feed that may interest you?
