I think that the game overall while being technically very good is not for me but if you are a fan of anime then you will enjoy this. Also I think that the combat is nice and refreshing and the graphics are very good (fix the weird anime looks though). I think my opinion of this game might be biased since I don’t like anime. I would recommend this to people who like anime and no one else.
Tera is a massively multiplayer role playing game (MMORPG) which is also free. I should also say I have only played this game for around ten – fifteen hours. So this will be a limited review. I should also say that one of the criteria I have is called Level of Freenes it is pretty much do you need to pay to have fun.
Level of Freenes
En Masse That is the link to their page about the free to play model. It is an okay system there is still some limitation but on a whole it is rather good. It is a rather good system.
Gameplay
The combat is good and responsive. Unlike most MMORPG’s it is a click to attack system so instead of clicking on them once then every now and then using a hot key power which gets dull after a while. The creators say “Keep a steady hand and know your arsenal, combat in TERA requires a quick finger and nuance on the battlefield, as most skills have to be aimed and can be dodged” I agree on the most part some of it sounds better than it is mainly the dodging since it could be better by making it sharper and have more uses. Overall the combat is rather fun and enjoyable but for me at least got boring at around the ten hour mark which for most games is fine but for MMORPG’s is bad. I think it might just be me and other people will like for longer but I got bored and wouldn’t recommend it to people. Overall I think the combat is fun but short lived at least as the class I played as a Popori warrior (I played as a Popori since the elves are ridiculously anime, the humans are dull and so I played as the Popori since I like Gizmo from Gremlins so I thought that was the closest race to him). There is also little things like mining and plant gathering but from what I saw it doesn’t have much use until higher level.
Life Span
Considering you don’t get bored of the combat like me there is plenty to keep you going, there are lots of quests and the end game content has interesting raids also the game isn’t as grindy as other MMORPGs but still has grind in it. I think it is a good MMORPG for someone who wants to start a MMORPG but doesn’t like their normal combat I would recommend Tera to them. I got bored of the game so I am going to give it a low score since I got bored but I feel the need to say it is most likely me so this might be a blip.
Presentation
I like the graphics and the landscapes of the game. I do feel the need to say that the game has a very blatant view on how to show females which could be seen as weird especially since the higher the gear the less clothes so yeah it is iffy. I feel the need to say once you get over the fact that they have creepy little girls and over sexualised women then you will be fine, honestly though I was always kind of uncomfortable mainly the little girls than the women but still it was weird. I guess that is an anime thing but still it is something I don’t like.
Story/ Creativity
The story seems half decent I barely scratched the surface on account of it being an MMORPG so my recounts will be foggy so here is what Wikipedia says “About a millennia ago two omnipotent titans Arun and Shara entered into formless voids and for reasons we can only guess, fell asleep. The titans started to dream. Dream of a world that took form on their backs known as Tera. The first beings to call Tera home were twelve godlike beings dreamt up by the titans, but it wasn’t long before the gods started fighting.
As the dream continued new creatures took place called mortals, they were less powerful but far more numerous. Arun dreamed of ambitious Elves, clever Humans, honor bound Amani, powerful Giants, scheming Devas, and mischievous Poporis. Shara dreamed of sly Sikandari, dark Gulas and Vampires, fierce Wendigos, strange Faeries, and serpentine Nagas. The mortals were forced into the divine wars of the gods, which eventually left the gods dead, imprisoned, or otherwise diminished. The mortal races didn’t escape unscathed. Some—like the Sikandari, and most of the Giants—were wiped out but others rose from the wars such as the Barakas and Castanics. Now that the gods were gone the seven races; Amani, Barakas, Castanics, Elin, High Elves, Humans, and Poporis must band together to fend off a new enemy. A metallic race from the underworld called Argons; their goal is to take over Tera and wake the titans to end their dreams and destroy Tera.” All the creative ideas are generic anime though.
I prefer the concept of the story to the actual story since as I said before I am not a fan of anime and this is defiantly anime.
Thanks for reading.
