Blizzard ported over Diablo III from PC to console. Does it work? Here are my Diablo III impressions played on PlayStation 3 (demo).
In a somewhat surprising move, Blizzard decided to port over the highly hyped Diablo III from PC to consoles. Some were very skeptical of the move stating that Diablo III is a PC only game and wouldn’t work on consoles. “Challenge accepted” Blizzard said, well, not really, I mean, I don’t know they may have, but they haven’t stated that on record in public. Anyway, enough about that, does Diablo III work on consoles? After playing for, oh, six to eight hours, give or take, of the demo (yes, that long.) it does work. The Diablo III demo is definitely worth your time.
As mentioned, I played this demo for six plus hours. Now, just to be clear, me playing for six hours was going through it twice with two different characters. If you want to run through the demo one time, it still will take you two to three hours if you take your time and grabs items and what not.
Anyway, this is one of the better demos you will play. There’s a lot going on, it’s a very meaty demo that will allow to grind up all the way to level nine. And, it’s not all for not either. After you finish the demo you can buy the full game and pick up where you left off. Again, as a demo, this is really cool and one of the better demos you will play. You get a really nice piece of the game.
Before you get all that though, first thing is first, you start up the demo and you get to choose if you want to play as a male or a female and whether or not you want to be a barbarian or a wizard. The other character classes such as Witch Doctor, Monk, and Demon Hunter, are unavailable on the demo. You design your character and you start your journey. You fight through numerous amount of undead creatures and the combat is easy, but very fun. On the PlayStation 3, you attack with the X button and dodge attacks rolling with the right stick. It is somewhat awkward at first considering the right stick is where you move the camera, but you get used to it pretty quickly, or at least, I did.
The one complaint I do have with the combat is you can’t lock onto enemies. For the most part, you will be fighting enemies in groups and waves and there were times where I wanted to attack a specific enemy, but I couldn’t because that isn’t where my character was locked in at. This was my only complaint that I had with my time playing Diablo III.
One of the other hurdles many people said would be a problem on console is the loot system and managing items, but Blizzard really cut the filler and made everything easier to navigate. For example, when looting an enemy you won’t get common items time and time again. This is to not overwhelm the player going through inventory items. The 2012 PlayStation 3 exclusive Rainbow Moon had this problem in which you would get items like this where you would constantly have to sell items that you had no use for time and time again. Blizzard wants to avoid this as much as possible so items you have no use for won’t come up too much.
All in all, Blizzard has made a seamless transition from PC to console. If you’re looking for an action, RPG, looting, dungeon crawling, hack and slash grinding type game on console you can’t go wrong with Diablo III.
