Interview: Oddworld Strangers Wrath HD Vita &Preview

I am a massive, massive Oddworld fan. This is a fact that my family, friends and even work mates know of and when we were given the opportunity to chillax with the awesome developers over at Just Add Water Developments, I instantly exploded with a raging mushroom cloud of excitement.

Not only did we get the privilege of trying out their up and coming Stranger’s Wrath for the Playstation Vita, but we also got to speak to CEO and Creative Director Stewart Gilray. Stewart knows his Oddworld and it was great for us to find out all of his inspirations and plans for the Oddworld franchise, not only as fans of the franchise but also for you, the readers.

You can check out this interview in the video below, but what I am here to talk about now is the game itself and how it matched up with its already available console brother.

Just like most Vita games, Strangers Wrath is set to be yet another excellent reason for why you should want to buy a Playstation Vita. Portable gaming is generally seen as a way for developers to try and squish their games onto the handheld platforms while also sacrificing a lot of what the original game made it so great.

Thankfully Just Add Water have been able to not only put Stranger and his journey on the Vita but also retain every drop of awesomeness that makes Stranger’s Wrath so great in the first place. Stewart and his team are a very modest bunch but they are obviously proud of their achievement so far and so were we. Not only did Stranger control incredibly well on the Vita but it also looked down right gorgeous. In a way Stranger’s Wrath seems like it was meant for the handheld way of gaming and Just Add Water have made sure that such a statement is seen as fact.

Fans looking to switch through the different types of ammo and move around the world will find that the game has been catered to the Vita way of thinking thanks to the system’s front and rear touch screen. Now those gamers wanting to feel every bit more immersed in the game can do everything Stranger can do from tapping on the rear touch to climb ropes, to thumbing your way through enemies with the beloved character’s left and right hook.

Even though we only had time to see the early stages of Stranger’s adventure, it was great to know that Oddworld was in safe hands after having a go with the game itself.

As I mentioned, if you are looking for a reason to buy a Vita then this might just be the game to get you going in the portable Playstation world.
