Thoughts on the Resident Evil Franchise

Thoughts on the Resident Evil Franchise

Where is the Franchise now and future thoughts

As you all know Resident Evil is one of the best survival horror video game franchise ever up to this day. The very first installment “Resident Evil” was released on March 22nd, 1996 originally in Japan called “Bio Hazard“. This was one of the first few Zombie game at it’s time that actually nearly scared people to death and managed to make a name for itself, eventually making it into a whole big franchise it is now.

But eventually at one point the franchise manages to lose most of it’s fans from before and falls somewhat downhill after a few years. The latest installment “Resident Evil 6” was a big upset to fans, and the sales were not all that great for the game. Fans were disappointed from before because, they thought the franchise could redeem itself from the previous game “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City” which was REALLY bad in the books, getting a whole bunch of bad reviews left and right. But to be honest “Capcom” is really just trying to make a change for the franchise. They take notice that the Gaming Industry is changing, evolving in a way that they think they have to make a major change to the games. But it seems that it’s fans (Including myself) does not want any change to the game style of the old ones.

The last game in the franchise that left the sense of Survival Horror was “Resident Evil 4” and it was the first to change the gameplay and story. But a big reason people see the franchise going downhill was the leaving of the director for the original Resident Evil all the way up to 4, Shinji Mikami.

Knowing that Shinji Mikami was the mastermind behind the franchise, most fans were angry that he has left the team, and waited to see the fate of the next games that came up. But the next game without it’s main director “Resident Evil 5” left fans with a good note, outselling Resident Evil 4 and without its original zombies in the game. Some fans weren’t satisfied with it since it still didn’t have it’s survival horror feel though.

Capcom then decided to bring in another team to make a somewhat missing story to the franchise “Resident Evil: ORC” telling what happened to the evidence of Raccoon City between the Resident Evil 2 and 3. Some fans were anticipated since it was bringing back regular zombies and creatures, but it came out with a “Socom” type of game style and it really just dropped the ball for Capcom and the franchise after that.

But on a good note Capcom has noticed that the franchise has been going bad and they are really disappointed in themselves. But according to Capcom they said for their next game “Resident Evil 7″ will indeed comeback to it’s Survival Horror roots and focus more to appeal its core fans (Like myself). So maybe the franchise will make its great comeback and bring back it’s fans from before and more.

But one thing that some fans (including me again) are wondering is, will Cliffy B former director for Epic Games and creator of Gears of War ever join “Capcom” to help make the next Resident Evil game ? He said on his twitter account once to capcom saying “We can fix Resident evil together” and Capcom responded by saying “Bring Pizza” !!! so does this mean will he ever help make the next game, or is he doing it now without us knowing ?

Let me know what you guys think about Cliffy B wanting to help capcom, and what you think about the Resident Evil Franchise.

I love games so much that I dedicate some of my time to write about them. That just says it all doesn't it.
