Final Fantasy XIV Registrations Are Up as New Content Comes Soon

Final Fantasy XIV:  A Realm Reborn is Square Enix‘s new massively multiplayer role-playing game, a relaunch of the failed Final Fantasy XIV project, and the numbers suggest that the reimagined release is a crowd pleaser. Square Enix announced that they have surpassed 1.5 million registrations for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn only two months after launch.  This total comes from the combined users in North America, Europe, Japan, and PAL territories on both PC and PS3.

This news comes as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn prepares to expand its functionality.  The new World Transfer Service has already started, allowing players to move character from one world to another for a fee of $18.  This service is pretty much the same concept as World of Warcraft’s server transfer service.  Details about this service can be found here.

Final Fantasy XIV A Realm RebornIn addition, patch 2.1, the first major content update, will go live in December; this patch will add several key features of an MMO including a PvP arena, more dungeons, and housing for players to store all their gear and show off their style. These new features will make the game even more appealing and will likely further boost these registration numbers.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will also launch on the PS4 next year.  Beta testing on this next gen system will begin on February 22, 2014.  No final release date for the PS4 version has yet been announced.

The game itself can be purchased for PS3 for $39.99 or for PC for $29.99.  Retail copies of the game include a 30-day trial subscription.  Following the first 30 days, the subscription fee starts at $12.99 per month.
