In what looks like an attempt to keep up with Sony promotions, here we are at Nintendo’s first 3DS/Wii U cross buy promotion. This deal is currently only available in Europe at the moment.

The game in question is a recent indie release named Squids Odyssey. Anybody who owns a copy of the 3DS Version has registered their Nintendo Network ID on both systems can download it for free on their Wii U.

Unfortunately this deal is limited only to players that have downloaded the 3DS version first.

Squids Odyssey itself is a turn based RPG developed by the “The Game Bakers”. The game is actually a compilations of all the Squids games while adding more improvements.

So how much will you put on the Infectious Ooze not being just a second name for Oil.

Build a team of four squids out of an available 15 to take on over 90 different missions to stop the return of the infectious oozes. Like any RPG these 15 Squids are split up into four separate classes, the shooter, scouter, troopers and healers and there all customizable with special power-ups and goofy hats.

Squids Odyssey is Nintendo’s first 3DS/Wii U cross buy promotion and while their off to a wobbly start with the limitations, this still shows a lot of promise. Also the fact that they chose not to use Mario for this is pretty surprising considering how much they love to plaster his face on nearly everything they do.
