Age of Conan: Unchained will receive a slew of new content in an update entitled “Secrets of Dragon’s Spine.” Great title. As an industry expert, I can tell you that fully half of all money in the business goes towards title research. They all want buzzwords that are “hip” with the kids. And they really use the word “hip” with the quotes around it. They use air quote gestures because they want to “look” like “morons” in “public.” Banjo Kazooie never would have been a success were it not for the title. Same goes for Parappa the Rapper. So get ready for a bunch of games with the words “facebook,” “social media,” and “banana hammock” in the title. I don’t get the last one either, but I learned long ago to never argue with the research. These people are professionals. Banana Hammock Hero will be selling like hotcakes in 2013.
The updates to Age of Conan: Unchained add a remote desert region to the world known as “The Dragon’s Spine,” which sounds to be both beautiful and incredibly hospitable. There will be new dungeons, quests, monsters, and things of a heroic nature added to the game. Also, one of the dungeons is called, “The Slithering Chaos,” so I’m going to go out on a limb and say that neither Samuel L. Jackson nor Indiana Jones would like that particular dungeon. Funcom’s Creative Director, Craig Morrison, gave more details, “Our version of Hyboria has grown into a vast online world since we launched back in 2008. With the ‘Secrets of Dragon’s Spine’ update we are moving into an incredibly exciting part of Robert E. Howard’s work, and I think both ‘Age of Conan’ players and fans of Howard’s work alike will find a lot to enjoy once they get to explore this new content.”
Age of Conan: Unchained is a free-to-play MMORPG, which is a genre of gaming that has apparently not been entirely dominated by the likes of World of Warcraft.
