Angry Birds will soon be moving to a galaxy far far away. Rovio Entertainment and Lucasfilm have announced that they are collaborating to release a new game, Angry Birds Star Wars. The partnership will combine the Angry Birds physics-based catapult game with the stories and setting of massive movie franchise, Star Wars.
The game is based around Angry Birds Space, however the birds will be replaced by Rebel Alliance members such as Luke, Ben Kenobi, Princess Leia and even Han Solo. The storm trooper pigs will be ruled by chief pig Darth Vader. Angry Birds Star Wars will also feature familiar settings such as the deserts of Tatooine, to the depths of the Death Star. John Williams score has also been re-worked for Angry Birds Star Wars.

In addition to the game, a massive retail launch is expected this autumn for Angry Birds Star Wars. The official game merchandise will range from Halloween costumes, action figures and even collectible plush toys. The merchandise is set for release at selected stores from the 28th October.
Colum Slevin, Vice President, Head of Studio Operations for Lucasfilm Ltd spoke about the reasons for the collaboration stating:
“Both Star Wars and Angry Birds share the instant and irresistible appeal of hands-on fun.” … “People seem to instinctively know what to do when handed a lightsaber or a bird in a slingshot, so this is a natural combination.”
The Angry Birds series which was released on the iPhone in 2009 has now been downloaded over 650 million times. The Angry Birds Space version, released back in February sold over 100m downloads in two months.
Angry Birds Star Wars will be released on iOS, Android, Amazon Kindle Fire, Mac, PC, Windows Phone and Windows 8. The game will be released on November 8th.
