Atari Celebrates 40th Anniversary!

Atari, one of the most known publishers and developers celebrated their 40th anniversary today (June 27th 2012)

“Over its 40 years of operation, Atari has become one of the most iconic and recognized brands around the world, responsible for mainstreaming video games with blockbuster franchises including Asteroids®, Breakout® and Centipede®,” said Jim Wilson, CEO of Atari. “Today, we aim to keep the tradition alive through new and creative development efforts based on what made us great in our early days – offering our devoted and growing fan base fun but challenging games on mobile and online platforms.”

Atari have released an infographic which can be seen here. It highlights all the special video game moments Atari had a part of, and runs through a 40 year progression, starting from when the company was founded on June 27th 1972 all the way to 2012!

Plus, they have released a video, which can be seen here again celebrating the ages, with video clips and voice clips from the past, and showing off recent releases of past games, still loved today by millions.

What celebration would be without some new releases? Circus AtariTM and Centipede®: Origins also release on mobile platforms.
Circus Atari is as the name would suggest, a circus based puzzle platformer. Centipede: Origins gets players to defend a garden from invading insects.

Zynga, a company you may know from Facebook have partnered up with Atari to bring even more games to mobiles and other devices with its new mobile publishing program, ‘Zynga Partners for Mobile’. A new title will follow shortly.

Fans can join in on the celebration with some giveaways (US residents only) in ’40 Giveaways in 4 Days’.
