BAFTA Awards: The Last of Us wins big
The BAFTA Awards were held last night and you might remember, we had a little fun in previewing the BAFTA Awards last month. And as we expected, The Last of Us won a total of five awards (not including Ashley Johnson’s best performance award) including: Best Game, Best Story, and Best Action/Adventure Game.
The Last of Us wasn’t the only game to win, however. There were other games that took home some BAFTA’s. For instance, Grand Theft Auto V and Tearaway were big winners as they took home three awards each. Grand Theft Auto V won Best British Game, Best Game Design, and Best Multiplayer. Tearaway won for Artistic Achievement, Best Family Game, and Best Mobile & Handheld Game.
The other winners: Gone Home won for best Debut Game; Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons won for Game Innovation; BioShock: Infinite won for Music; FIFA 14 won for best Sports Game; and Papers, Please won for Best Strategy & Simulation Game.
Overall, most of the favorites won, as expected, but there were a few upsets. For example, Civilization V: Brave New World was the odds on favorite, but Papers, Please pulled off the upset. Ashley Johnson won for playing Ellie beating out Troy Baker (who played Joel in The Last of Us), Steven Ogg (who played Trevor in Grand Theft Auto V), and even Ellen Page (who played Jodie Holmes in Beyond: Two Souls) who has that Hollywood star power.
All in all, the BAFTA Awards were cool. Personally, I would say that they were way better than the VGX’s this year. I feel they better represented the video game industry. Just my opinion. What do you guys think? Did you catch the BAFTA Awards? Do you agree with some of the winners? Let us know in the comments below. Also, you can check out the BAFTA site here.
