Big Names Are Expected At The 7th Annual Game Design Expo

Vancouver Film School (VFS) will begin officially selling tickets for the 7th annual Game Design Expo, which is due to take place in Vancouver from January 19-20, 2013.

On Saturday, January 19 the day known as Industry Speaker Day at the Game Design Expo, seven presenters from Canda and the United States will be giving ticketholders never before seen behind the scenes looks at some of today’s biggest games, starting will be headliner Chris Haluke Lead Designer at 343 Industries the Microsoft studio behind Halo 4. With IGN claiming the game as “a masterstroke” by 343, the game is Microsoft’s most expensive game to have ever been developed.

Joining Haluke at the Game Design Expo will be Patrick Plourde, designer at Ubisoft Montreal who has contributed to several games in the blockbuster franchise Assassin’s Creed. The panel will also be featuring a highly diverse lineup of speakers that will include big-budget developers all the way down to indie game makers. All of the developers gather to discuss and explore what the future of gaming holds and they will even bring up the biggest question that we all must face – can AAA games continue to conquer the market even as there is a big shift toward mobile, social and free-to-play games being released more and more daily.

“Every year I am excited to see this event come together with lineups that have been able to inspire the game designer in everyone,” says Dave Warfield, Head of Game Design at VFS. “This year is no exception.”

Industry Speaker Day is designed for everyone in the gaming world, professionals, students wishing to be a part of the vastly growing industry or fans themselves. Sunday, January 20 those who have dreams of becoming the next big game designer get their own day to call their very own at the annual VFS Game Design Open House. There will be several displays of game design classes, presentations from award-winning alumni, and the chance to play student games in a special arcade at the VFS Game Design campus, the free Open House is a chance for those registered to take that first step toward their dream career in the gaming industry.
