Chinese gamers can rejoice as the critically acclaimed multiplayer experience of Call of Duty is finally coming to their shores in the form of Call of Duty Online.
After depressing news that the Celestial Empire’s first video game console, the CT-510 took a hit in release day sales. The enlightening news that Activision’s flagship multiplayer will be making its way onto multiple home consoles will surely put a smile on many people’s faces.
With Activision making a multi-year publishing agreement with China’s own Tencent Holdings Limited, an Internet services provider in mainland China, this will ultimately allow them an exclusive publishing license to operate Call of Duty Online into households across the country.
We are very excited about our relationship with Tencent and the opportunities for gaming in China,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “We think China is one of the most exciting places in the world for us to grow our business and to develop innovative new games.”
Kotick continued, “We have worked closely with Tencent to create a game with broad appeal for the Chinese market. We look forward to laying the foundation for a long-standing relationship with Tencent and to launching a new and unique experience for fans.”
This new Call of Duty experience will allow gamers the ability to take full advantage of the franchise’s core multiplayer experience by giving full access to in-depth character customization along with weapon and equipment management built with the focus on the Chinese consumer market. Along with all these features, the new game will include an array of game modes and multiplayer maps along with featuring an original fully reimagined campaign based on the Special Operations missions within the Modern Warfare Universe.
Check back in the coming weeks for more details on the upcoming release date.
