New content is coming to Dark Souls with Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss. This expansion will add new bosses, enemies, areas, armor, and a new PvP mode that allows player to fight to the death.
The DLC will be available on October 24th, which is appropriate given the gloomy nature of this game. Everything in the game has a sense of foreboding, gloom, and darkness to it, made even more intense by the fact that players constantly die. The developers even made an alternate edition of the game that included the DLC and called it “Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.” It’s good to see some truth in marketing. I wish more games went this route.
Maybe they could have called Duke Nukem Forever something like “A Sad Attempt At Capitalizing On An Old Franchise That Attempts to Be Edgy By Openly Hating Women and Including Scatological Humor.”
Dark Souls is known for being a brutally difficult game, which helps it to stand apart from most other games that trip over themselves to give you an achievement. While I can appreciate a false sense of achievement, being a young and self-absorbed Millennial, it’s good to break this up once in a while and push players for their victories.
I just hope that other games don’t try to mimic its success and cover up poor gameplay by making the game impossible and pretending that they’re making their players earn a win. Everybody loved this game, it seems, because they felt like they really had to work to survive to the end. My favorite part about the new Dark Souls DLC is the domain name they took out for it. Yes, it is Preparetodie.com.
