EA apologises for Troublesome SimCity launch

EA apologises gamers for the troublesome SimCity launch and makes up for it with a free Origin game offered to everyone who has purchased the SimCity by March 26.

SimCity launch was on of the worst in video game history. Thousand of gamers were unable to play the game they have legally bought due to repeating server issues. All because of the EA»s underestimation of the number of buyers and DRM security system, which requires connection to the Internet even to start a single-player game.

As announced last week, EA apologised to players via an e-mail and tries to recompense for their frustration with a free PC game from the Origin. The list of available games include following titles:

  • Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Bejeweled 3
  • Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
  • Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition

Everyone who will register the game by March 26 will be able to receive a game of his choice for free, what actually might be a good reason to buy SimCity as several of the offered games (like Dead Space 3) are worth almost as much as the SimCity itself.

This information is accompanied by a statement of apology from the game developer, which reads:”Our SimCity Mayors are incredibly important to the team at Maxis. We sincerely apologize for the difficulties at launch and hope to make it up to you with a free PC game download from Origin.”

Well, it seems that most server issues have been resolved by now and players can finally enjoy the game. However it is rumored that EA is actually trying the take advantage of the whole situation. For example several gamers who haven»t bought the game have noted that they also received the e-mail informing them about the offer. It would suggest that besides making an apology EA tries to boost the sales of the game.
