Nintendo UK have announced an all new Mario Kart 7 tournament for Mario Kart 7 players in the UK and Ireland. The tournament is set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the launch of Super Mario Kart for the Super NES.
Male and female racers will battle in regional online communities for a place in the Grand Final in Birmingham on October 27th. The online tournament will run alongside this summer’s Mario Kart 7 Britain’s Fastest Family tournament. The qualifying stages will be fought out in 10 online communities, split into a men and women’s category in the 5 regions of England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. To take part players must register on the contest website where you will be assigned to a community room.
The scores and regional winners will be determined by community points. This means that the contest will challenge players to complete as many races as possible. This means that speed and skill may not help potential winners excel in the competition. The top two in each community will at the end of the competrion face off directly in a race to the Final.
There will be a number of prizes in the competition including trophies and videogames. The two qualifiers from each community will receive a Shell Cup, a copy of the 3DS game New Super Mario Bros 2 and a Nintendo goody bag. Gamers who narrowly miss out on the final will not leave empty-handed. Those who finish 3rd place in each community will recieve a goody bag and a Shell Cup Trophy.
The Grand Final, which will also include the Britain’s Fastest Family tournament finale, will see contestants once again split into boy and girl categories with 10 male and 10 female finalists challenging for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The male and female winners will both receive the Leaf Cup trophy and those in 2nd place will win the Special Cup. The top three male and female finalists will receive every upcoming first party game for Nintendo 3DS for the next 12 months from November 2012.
To take part in the competion simply join the official community in your area. Players should sign in with the Mario Kart 7 username they use when playing the game on their Nintendo 3DS console. The competition takes place from 9am on the 17th September to midnight on the 28th September.
