Everyone’s Waiting For Guild Wars 2

The talented developers at ArenaNet, and the world’s premier publisher at NCsoft are lying in wait to unleash their newest product Guild Wars 2 onto the masses. Millions of extremely hungry fans around the world are foaming at the mouth in anticipation of August 28th when the retail game ships. Or if your lucky, August 25th is when early purchasers can log in 3 days early and get just that much of a head start to the epic world.

Guild Wars 2 could be the dawn of a new era for MMO’s as we know them, offering all of the expected qualities of similar games, but without charging a monthly subscription fee. That’s a major change, and it was a dangerous but innovative leap for ArenaNet to take, which appears to be working out judging by the public’s reaction. The MMORPG is evolving into a new form, leaving its usual way of business in the flowing dust behind it. This is slowly being shown through the current MMO’s to come out this year that have been decent in gameplay, but have struggled to find a solid audience. Star Wars: The Old Republic going almost entirely free-to-play this fall is a perfect example that the monthly subscription fee simply doesn’t work in this day and age.

The president and co-founder of ArenaNet, O’Brien said “Five years ago we set out to develop a game that finally fulfilled the promise of online worlds. We questioned everything that had previously been taken for granted and we never settled for ‘good enough’. Now, we’re finally ready to introduce Guild Wars 2 to gamers who are looking for the next evolution in online gaming”.

Guild Wars 2 is launching at a time when players are looking for something different in an MMO: a game that offers them an innovative and unique experience without a monthly subscription.” He went on to say, “Guild Wars 2 is that game, and we believe it will fundamentally change the way people think about online RPGs”.

Guild Wars 2 is shaping up to be an incredible game, and is offering players all that they could hope for and more. Including :

– Dynamic Events: Guild Wars 2 is a living, breathing world where events occur naturally and in response to players’ actions. This system fosters cooperation between players—everyone who participates is rewarded, and players begin to naturally cooperate instead of compete.

– Action-Oriented Combat: Guild Wars 2 is an action game at heart. Survival in combat is based on timing, skill and movement. Well-timed dodges or combo attacks are integral to any battle. Guild Wars 2 rethinks the outdated class restrictions of other games, giving players the tools and skills they need to play with friends regardless of their class.

– Player vs. Player and World vs. World: Competitive multiplayer in Guild Wars 2 consists of two exciting modes PvP serves up intense small-unit combat that focuses on skill and strategy, not gear. WvW pits entire servers of players against each other in a two-week-long war on a series of huge maps.
