Indie game promises unique flight simulation experience

With over 270 backers, over $13,700 pledged out of a $70,000 game-release goal, and a July 6 deadline approaching for its Kickstarter campaign, Nine Dots Studio officially announced its upcoming flight simulation space combat game, GoD Factory: Wingmen.

The competitive multiplayer-only game run on the Unity game engine has a simple premise: 4-on-4 tactical third-person space battles with the objective of destroying your opponent’s carrier while defending your own. These 13 km-long carriers will only be brought down by destroying its six integrity points.  According to the developer, the game will feature customization options, including the ability to construct ships using hulls, weapons, upgrades and components. Customizations can be purchased with money attained from previous matches. Each team will have to choose a space race, which are distinguished by their visual appearance and play style.

The six developers who make up Nine Dots have been looking at the community for help. Initially starting the project without funding, it currently has a kickstarter campaign on Kickstarter.com, and is looking to get the game on Steam via Greenlight.  In the first 12 hours of its Kickstarter campaign, the company out of Quebec City, Canada amassed 10 per cent of its goal, but has not kept that pace. The company continues to update the Kickstarter web page with new reveals, such as “the first of four mystery ships” in order to entice people to contribute to the campaign. It also is offering funders with rewards for certain amounts donated.

The game is both joystick and Oculus Rift enabled, which will allow players to “experience flight simulation like never before.” This experience is enhanced by the fact that GoD Factory will force players to take into account real flight expectations, such as zero-gravity and the like. The company also said that it will have a follow-up title with a single-player and narrative focus.

GoD Factory: Wingmen is due for release in late 2013, and will be available on PC and Mac platforms.
