On May 21st, in the Netherlands, a new game was announced by Vogelsap, developers of no games yet. A new and intense multiplayer experience that features asymmetrical game play for PC players.
The Flock, was thought of by Jeroen and Bo, who were playing a game together and thought of a way to predict the others movements. The process resulted in the idea of using light to show which direction you are moving. A further idea was developed by using the light to spot other people without being in the light yourself.
In the year 3000, Earth has become a dark and inhabitable place to live. In the online game, players are the Flock, and are tasked with searching for the solar capsule, known also as the light artifact. By grabbing this artifact, players will turn into the carrier.
The Flock, are bigger and much faster, and can reach to higher locations than the carrier. However, the carrier is not all useless, for it uses the solar capsule to spot players who are moving and burns them to death in a quick instant. The players as the Flock can decide to not move where ever the light is, staying alive.
The dark setting and ominous feeling, help make the game more engaging for the players. All players will switch between roles throughout the game from predator to prey, enhancing the experience of a survival horror game, where the players weaknesses are exposed and must use their strengths to their advantage.
Features as outlined by the developer are:
- Asymmetrical online multiplayer
- Exciting game play
- simple mechanics
- Non-linear dynamic audio system
- Hunt and be Hunted
Vogelsap, is a Dutch indie developer that exists from seven second year students who wanted to be a part of the game industry.
Based on your enthusiasm, we will continue developing The Flock, so let us know what you think. The team came together because we wanted to create something new and original. We think there is still a lot of room left for games to explore. The Flock is our first love letter to the games industry!
A teaser is the only thing that has been shown, but I am interested to see some actual game play. The idea itself is original and I love scary games, so I’m excited to see what Vogelsap has to offer.
