Firefall – A Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter

The upcoming massively multiplayer online shooter, Firefall, has European servers according to the developer Red 5 Studios.

Last weekend, Firefall, did a stress test to see how the servers would handle everything. The European servers are now live, while additional testing will be conducted during the weekend of December 7.

“We’ve been working hard to get these servers up and running for our European fans and it’s great that we were able to launch them in time for the Beta Weekends,” said Mark Kern, CEO of Red 5. “We still expect some kinks as the stress-testing continues, but overall, performance should be significantly improved with less lag for European players.”

The game is Free-2-Play and boasts a very open world, jet packs, and several missions.  Boss encounters will be prevalent and players will be able to rebuild crashed Thumpers and even race other players.

Firefall will utilize a modified type of the Offset Engine, created by Offset Software, then later sold to Intel in 2008. The game has been through 5 years of development.

A few different battleframes will be included in this game: Recon, Assault, Biotech, Engineer, and Dreadnaught. Each player will have a particular weapon and skills at their disposal. Players will have to work together in order to survive the vast environment.

Red 5 Studios was founded in 2005 and staffs many people from Blizzard Entertainment. Many of the employees helped shape the epic online MMORPG World of Warcraft. CEO Mark Kern is the only founder of Red 5 Studios that has remained with the company.
