Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm Out Now

The Cold War Gets Hot in Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm

The Cold War was a long period of tension between the United States and the Soviet Union.  Fears were high that a terrible, cataclysmic World War III would erupt, bringing the world to its knees in destruction and nuclear winter.  Yet, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Cold War ended without ever getting “hot,” but with the release of Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm on PC players can experience what World War III would have been like.  It is developed by On Target Simulation and is out now for $49.99 for digital download or the boxed edition for $64.99.

Players take command of either the Soviet or NATO forces in this game.  Its gameplay features an innovative asynchronous turn system that aims to realistically model a real-life military strategy called the OODA loop, which stands for observe, orient, decide, and act.

Robert Crandall from OTS explains:

Basically what we are trying to do is create a Dynamic WEGO (simultaneous turn) system. Based on the readiness of your forces, jamming, and the loss of headquarter units, the time between issuing new orders will vary over the course of the battle.

Other features include:

  • Massive maps
  • Hundreds of platforms and weapons
  • Details battle orders
  • Modern combat portrayed in a realistic fashion
  • Air combat
  • Chemical and nuclear weapons
  • 3 whole campaigns
  • Mod-friendly

This game promises to combine the strategy and simulation genres into a true-to-life imagining of what the third World War would have been like for military commanders.
