Frost Wars: The Rise of Fatty Sparkles Coming to PC

Frost Wars: The Rise of Fatty Sparkles is coming to PC, Mac, and Linux. Yes, yes, the name gave me pause as well. The Frost Wars: The Rise of Fatty Sparkles trailer debuted August 23, giving players a look at the graphics and setting of this title. For me, the most infuriating part of the trailer was around the 12 second mark, when they didn’t use an Oxford comma in the trailer text. I mean really, what kind of monster doesn’t use an Oxford comma? Also, there’s a creepy looking bear at the end of the trailer, who is the eponymous Fatty Sparkles.

Frost Wars: The Rise of Fatty Sparkles is a turn-based strategy game with a focus on player versus player combat. The story behind the brutality is that a corporation called Toxi Co. travels to the Arctic Circle to drill for ice, like you do. Of course, they drill too deep because they always drill too deep, and some evil goo is released. The goo mutates the local animals and a war begins between Eskimos and Toxi Co. employees, but the man (bear) who is pulling the strings is Fatty Sparkles, an arms dealer. There’s a pun in there somewhere about the right to bear arms, but I’m going to let it go. I don’t want my writing to be unbearable.

Frost Wars: The Rise of Fatty Sparkles, in addition to being a game whose title gets weirder every time you write it out, is also a game whose developer encourages community design.

“We understand why the big studios choose to keep the audience out of the process. It’s a real risk to invite people in this early. What if there’s bad press for your unfinished game?” says Austin Hice, co-founder of Lantern. “But over the last six months we’ve seen that nothing can top the ideas that players bring to the game.” We’re all aware of the great success Mountain Dew had in community sourcing names for its new beverage, so we all have high hopes for this approach. Stay classy internet.
