GDC Europe Starts Now in Germany

Meet with some of the best game developers in the industry at Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC Europe) held in Cologne, Germany.

I’m sure a lot of gamers out there would love to get into this industry and make their own video games. Maybe they no longer want to rant about how Call of Duty could be improved by adding female models in the game, and instead make their own Call of Duty-like game but with a female protagonist. However making a video game is hard, and even more hard is to find people that could help or publish your games. Fortunately that is changing in time as more game developers get together to share ideas and build networks with people new to the industry. That seems to be one of many reasons why the GDC Europe is being held.

Anyone in Germany that can attend GDC Europe will find more than a hundred national and international speakers attending. Here visitors can listen to leading creators of computer, console, handheld, mobile, social and online games. Five main conference tracks are provided, from programming to Game Design. Some of the keynote speakers is Victor Kislyie, CEO of Wargaming.net that gave us World of Tanks; Niklas Smedberg, Epic Games senior engine programmer, who developed the iOS game Infinity Blade; and Alex Hutchinson, Ubisoft Montreal creative director, who is one of the many minds that created the award-winning Assassin’s Creed franchise.

There are plenty of free tools out there for making video games right now, such as Game Maker or Unity. But even though there are some good online tutorials and books for these, sometimes it helps to talk to experts in the field if you want to promote a game or get ideas on how to stand out. So if you are in Cologne, Germany and are looking to get into game design, It might be worth checking out GDC Europe this year.
